Couples
Cruising
“Learning to sail together can save
your marriage”.
- Anon
We don’t think so, but it can be a lot of fun doing
something as exciting as sailing together- an art, science,
sport and lifestyle that many couples enjoy for a lifetime.
Women should be as prepared as their men are in docking,
navigating and MOB drills.
One common scenario is that the husband already has more
sailing experience and knowledge. He does all the docking
while she handles the lines. Both may know their jobs but
if the man goes overboard, gets hurt or sick, the woman
often can’t bring the boat back to the dock and too
often ends up panicking and the target of unpleasant yelling.
And we wonder why wives and girlfriends don't want to go
sailing!
The
smart men take sailing classes with their wives insuring
that they learn all the necessary skills to be a better
prepared sailor. Knowledge and experience give women confidence.
Most men readily admit that they too learned a lot more
than they thought they knew. Also, with a common “sailing
language” developed in a positive learning experience,
both are better prepared to sail and cruise together on
their own boat or chartering.
Couples come to the Vancouver Sailing Club to become better
prepared to sail and cruise. When couples learn to sail
together with a skilled instructor there is hope!
