VSC101 Introduction to Sailing - Day Sailing

Have you never been out on the water but want to experience the thrill and beauty of sailing?
Enjoy a fun day on Granville Island and English Bay learning about sailing, being a skipper and crew on a modern sailboat. Participants wishing to continue learning how to sail can use this course for credit to register for enrollment in the ASA101 Basic Keelboat Certification which provides qualifications for sailboat rental.
Prerequisite:
An inquisitive mind and a healthy body
Course includes:
- Morning seminar on our 29 foot sailboat learning the terminology of sailing, describing and locating the wind, tying bowline and stopper knots, boat safety and review of Rules of the Road for sailing
- Afternoon sailing on our 29 foot J29 sloop on English Bay learning how to raise and lower the sails, demonstrate the points-of-sail, and sail a triangle course around our beautiful English Bay
- every student will experience the roles and skills for Skipper and Crew
- introductory pre- course study with booklet "Sailing Made Easy"
- VSC Introduction to Sailing Certificate of Achievement
- Weekends - meet at Granville Island Docks Saturdays and Sundays 8:30am- 5pm
- Weekday evenings- meet at our Granville Island office Monday & Tuesday 5:30 - 9pm
Enrolment:
- individual $239 per person, couples/ friends $215 per person, groups 3-5 $195 per person plus HST
- Option 1- lite lunch with desert on- the- Bay $15
- Option 2- leather sailing gloves to protect hands & nails $35
