The Vancouver Sailing Club will compete for the 2nd time in the West Coast's most spectacular, fun and challenging racing venue......

 The Cadillac Van Isle 360 is a 580 nautical mile point- to- point race circumnavigating wild and rugged Vancouver Island, B.C. Canada from June 16 to July 1, 2007. Sailed in ten legs the course provides inshore, offshore and overnight legs through some of the worlds most challenging and beautiful waters. For details on the race please see www.VanIsle360.com.

2007 Cadillac VAN ISLE 360 Crew Preparation

VSC looks forward to extending our winning streak and helping other competitors with a new program for crew development. The program includes identifying potential crew, reviewing their strengths and certifying their abilities to meet the Competent Keelboat Racing Crew Standard

This program was developed by Vancouver Sailing Club’ s winning offshore skippers Carl Richardson and Monty Beatrice to prepare sailors for coastal and offshore racing.

The overall goal of this program is to ensure all crew have the confidence and abilities to enjoy this awesome adventure in all ways- but most importantly as an integral part of a competitive crew.

The program includes practice sessions and qualifying races to focus on teamwork, seamanship and racing knowledge:

  1. Learn teamwork and all seven crew positions
  2. Advanced sail trim theory & practice
  3. Heavy weather racing techniques
  4. Offshore night safety procedures and equipment
  5. Marine First Aid and CPR
  6. Strategy & Tactics for 2007 Cadillac VanIsle 360
  7. The winning attitude

The VSC course will be offered this year on a state-of- the- art Beneteau First 36.7 and is available to all VanIsle 360 skippers and crew in

- Vancouver & Sunshine Coast (April)
- Sidney & Gulf Islands (May)

2007 Cadillac VanIsle360 Crew Cost

  • $1275 for inside legs June 15-22 OR $1375 for outside legs June 22- July 1st
  • $2175 for both inside and outside legs June 15-July 01
  • Schedule of payments invited crew $ 600 March 20 and balance total May 1st. Cheques to be made out to Vancouver Sailing Club.

What’s included:

Competent Keelboat Racing Crew
(VSC 504)

Become a contributing valued crew member on racing sailboats 24-45ft. Topics include sailing fundamentals review; the 7 Crew Positions; rigging and controls, sail making technologies; sail choice & combinations; teamwork in 6 sailing maneuvers, advanced sail trim for main, jib and spinnaker, Rules of Racing, Race Strategy and Tactics, Psychology of Winning Racing Crews, Race Management, Introduction to Navigation and GPS Chart Plotters. The class will be the crew aboard a Beneteau First 36.7  competing in a 4- race series based in English Bay. This course is for men & women with sailing experience and good fitness levels.   

4 Classroom Sessions , 6 sailing sessions/ $675 or $300 for Classroom session only
